ISAN Switzerland is one of a total of 15 national registration agencies responsible for identifying audiovisual works in accordance with ISO standard 15706, known as ISAN – International Standard Audiovisual Number. ISAN has existed since 2002 and has since become an established standard, particularly in Europe.

ISAN is centrally managed in a database by the ISAN International Agency (ISAN-IA), based in Geneva. The data of audiovisual works and versions registered worldwide in the ISAN Register are stored there and can be uniquely assigned to and identified as audiovisual works using their ISAN.

ISAN Switzerland, based in Bern, is responsible for the identification of audiovisual productions in Switzerland. ISAN Switzerland was founded in 2004 under the name ISAN Berne by the collective management organisations Suissimage, SSA and SWISSPERFORM and is organised as an association. SUISA has also been a member of ISAN Switzerland since 2018.

ISAN’s clients include Swiss producers and co-producers, distributors, screenwriters, broadcasters, digital streaming platforms and content management organisations.
